It all started with a TikTok video. I found myself laughing at what my generation, Gen X, is up to now, and before I knew it, I was spiraling into memories of the good ol’ days—when life was about mixtapes, late-night calls, and plastering our bedroom walls with posters of whoever we found hunky at the time.
That trip down memory lane ignited something within me. It wasn’t just nostalgia; it was a reflection of where I’ve been, how far I’ve come, and the healing journey I’ve been on. So, I decided to channel those feelings into something physical, something that would serve as a tribute to the generation that shaped me. Thus, the idea for the Gen X Wall in my studio was born.
I didn’t do it alone, though. My daughter Lizzy, along with my business manager Nichole, helped me bring it all together. We sifted through old concert T-shirts, movie posters, and all the memorabilia that defined our youth. Piece by piece, we turned those memories into something that resonates not only with me but with the women who walk into my studio for boudoir sessions. Lizzy, in particular, loved seeing who we used to swoon over and how we made our bedrooms these personal collages of our lives. I realized it was a perfect teaching moment for her, showing how each of us creates our own space in the world, both literally and figuratively.
The Gen X Wall isn’t just about celebrating the past; it’s about embracing the person I’ve become. The healing process over the years has taught me how important it is to reconnect with your core, with what made you you in the first place. And that’s the message I want to send to my boudoir clients—every experience, every moment shapes who we are, and that is something beautiful to celebrate.
With this wall, my studio now holds a piece of my heart, my journey, and my generation’s wild, rebellious spirit. I can’t wait for my clients to see it. It’s a reminder that we’ve lived, we’ve loved, and we’ve come out the other side stronger, more empowered, and—just like those old posters and tapes—timeless.
